Question for Sunday

Let's say you want to demonstrate how God throws parties during the children's time. Let's say you give the choir a little bit of confetti to throw into the air at the right moment. Mindful of big messes, you do not give them very much. Bear in mind, this is not a small room. Is the result:

1. That it is a cute thing to do, if not particularly profound, and everyone understands God's fun-ness much better afterwards?

2. That no one even notices the confetti, since the choir is so far away and the confetti is so small?

3. That everyone spends the rest of the service worrying about who's going to vacuum it up later?

This seemed so simple yesterday. Today, it seems like it's going to send the whole service crashing into the mountains. Suggestions welcome.

ooh... so depends, juniper. is the congregation laid back or uptight? do you know them well enough yet to know? then again you're new so they're might be extra grace... tough one. wish i could be more helpful.

Could you give them something else to throw? Inflated beach balls? Rolls of crepe paper? Tootsie rolls? Something easier to clean up that might be able to have a "bigger" impact?

oh YEAH. crepe paper! they can wave it around. that's the ticket - thanks pink.

Senior Pastor used pom-poms last Sunday. The children loved waving them around but that assumes you have pom-poms. He had been to a recent football game.

I was going to suggest crepe paper, because there is always someone obsessing about the vacuuming, no matter the size of church or congregation. Glad someone got here earlier to say so!

thanks for the help all - the children's time went so well. WE looked for the lost thing, when we found it, I said the cue for the choir and they jumped up and sang that one little phrase from teh Halleluia Chorus while waving popsicle sticks with ribbon stapled to them (J and E's pre-church craft project). Everyone jumped and laughed and then we talked about rejoicing.
If only I'd asked for help on the SErmon Itself, maybe that could have rocked also.

This is so cute! I love the Hallelujah Chorus idea!

The Children's sermon at my church happens at the other, earlier service. I hate missing it!

I wrote about this post at my place.

Juniper, that sounds great! And smart to involve the choir. I'm sure your sermon rocked, too.
